Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry

The mission of Kailua Baptist Church is to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded (Matt 28.18-20)

Also, the main teachings in Scripture for parents are to keep the commandments of the Lord on their own hearts, and then to teach them diligently to their children (Deut 6.6-7); also, husbands are commanded to lead their wives in raising their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph 5.21-6.4).  The main teachings in Scripture for children are to honor father and mother (Deut 5.16, Eph 6.1).

"Reprezent Him," KBC's ministry to middle/high schoolers, fights to stay in line with all of that.  Therefore, the two major pitfalls we try to avoid:

  1. Our youth ministry MUST NOT become a separate church.
  2. Our youth ministers MUST NOT become the main disciplers of the youth

This then requires:

  1. A biblical understanding of conversion (assuming the children in the church are all believers is irresponsible)
  2. Desire to help parents parent and to help children obey them
  3. As many adults in the church as possible to be involved (not just those we think are gifted for youth ministry)

Right now we have a youth class that meets on Sunday mornings at 9am, a Bible study that meets on Friday evenings at 6:30pm at the home of Karl and Darlene Matsushima (dinner provided), a monthly youth outing on one of the Fridays, and volleyball every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 2pm at Kaneohe District Park.  Parents are welcome to any and all of these gatherings.  For more info on events or to volunteer, see Karl or Darlene Matsushima.
